The first-ever national university in the Caucasus was opened in 1918 laying the foundation for a European-type higher school in Georgia, based on Georgian educational traditions.Today the Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University is one of the first scientific-research institutions of Georgia. It implements about 200 local and international scientific grant programs annually.The Tbilisi State University is one of the largest higher educational institutions by its scales. Today about 22 thousand students are undergoing studies at seven faculties of TSU.
The University of Santiago de Compostela (USC) is a Research University with a long-standing academic tradition built on scientific innovation, social engagement and internationalisation. Founded in 1495, USC is rich in historical, cultural and natural heritage sites located in its two campuses in the cities of Santiago de Compostela and Lugo. Perm State University (PSU) was founded in 1916. Today, more than a hundred years later, it has the status of a National Research University and it is one of the leading universities in Russia. There are 12 faculties and 83 departments. Students and academic staff conduct researches in 141 university laboratories. PSU has the biggest number of students in the region comparing to other Perm HEIs (more than 12 000 students).
